At Broad Approach, we believe in spotlighting organizations that are making a significant impact in their local communities. Today, we're focusing on the West Milford Rotary Club, a community service organization based in West Milford, New Jersey, that truly embodies the principle of "Service Above Self".
The club continually welcomes new members who share their dedication to making a difference in the community. This year, under the guidance of West Milford Rotary President Amy Bennett, the club embarked on a project that not only benefits the local community but also contributes to global environmental conservation efforts. They established a Pollinator Garden at the YMCA camp in Montclair. This project, funded by a grant from Rotary District 7490 and additional funding from the club itself, aims to conserve and protect local pollinators while providing educational opportunities for local children about pollinators, gardening, and biodiversity.
The YMCA of Montclair, where the Pollinator Garden is located, is an organization that shares the Rotary Club's commitment to community service. The YMCA offers a variety of programs for children and teens, including a Counselor-In-Training program that prepares teens for future leadership roles.
In addition to their ongoing initiatives, the West Milford Rotary Club also organizes special events throughout the year. One such event is the "Christmas in July", where club members visit local nursing homes and present gifts to residents, spreading joy and warmth in the heart of summer.
Another notable initiative of the club is the "Flags for Heroes" event, where flags are displayed in honor of everyday heroes who have touched people's lives. This event is a testament to the club's commitment to recognizing and honoring those who make a difference in our lives.
The West Milford Rotary Club's work is a shining example of how local actions can have a broad impact. Through their various initiatives, they are not only improving their local community but also contributing to global causes, truly embodying the principle of "Service Above Self".
